  19. DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
  20. =============================================================================
  21. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  22. before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
  23. using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
  24. differ on details -- some request registration while others
  25. require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  26. registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
  27. using the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  29. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
  30. and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
  31. exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
  32. programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
  33. of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
  34. and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  35. distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
  36. and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
  37. specific group. For example, some authors require written
  38. permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their

  65. GroundFire! 1.1 version is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge 
  66. to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your friends, but 
  67. please do not give it away altered or as part of another system.Also no one 
  68. may decompile, reverse engineer, or disassemble this program. The essence of 
  69. "user-supported" software is to provide personal computer users with quality
  70. software without high prices, and yet still provide incentive for programmers to

  74.   Playing GroundFire!

  76. * All the Instructions for GroundFire! are in the game,but heres how to play
  77.   if you feel like reading.

  79. There are 2 rounds in the Shareware version.
  80. You get 3 lives(9 in the complete game) to start and you get 3 continues in 
  81. round one. The object of the game.. Simple, shoot everything! And make it 
  82. though to the end.

  84. Press these keys on your keyboard to..
  85.  
  86. Space key   = Fire your weapon & resume play after pausing the game.
  87. Left  Arrow = Move your A.D.A.T Unit left.
  88. Right Arrow = Move your A.D.A.T Unit right.
  89. Tab Key     = Pause the action.
  90. EscKey      = Quit the game.

  92. Your score is displayed on the bottom left, with the number of lives you have
  93. left in the middle. The current running High Score is on the lower right
  94. side. To reset the High score simply erase the "score.dat" and the "name.dat"
  95. files. Be careful not to erase any other .dat files.

  101. A). At least a 386/sx, Ibm compatible.(486 recommended) 
  102. B). Sound Blaster or Sound Blaster compatible Sound card.

  106. Installing GroundFire!

  109. 1) If downloaded GroundFire! in the form of a zip file.You just needed to  
  110.    unzip all the files to the same directory. (And you probably did that 
  111.    already)  Just type gfire to play.

  114. 2)  If you are loading from the GroundFire! Shareware disk. Insert the disk 
  115.     in your "A" drive and type Install.
  116.

  120. *You may need to change the install.bat to fit your drives.If you us different
  121. drives other than "A" and "C". Basically change the "A" in the "install.bat" 
  122. to whatever drive you'll be installing from. Change "C" in the "install.bat" 
  123. file to your whatever destination drive you'll be using. ( D,E.. ect.)

  126. **Another way to install Groundfire! is simply make a directory on 
  127. your hard drive and then just copy all the files from the shareware disk
  128. to that directory.

  144. ** GroundFire automatically detects for your sound card settings when you run 
  145. it, and does not pollute your hard drive with any scattered files.

  150. Problems with installation and running the game.
  151. ============================================================================
  152. *  Game doesn't run properly.. * 
  153.  
  154. A) You must have at least a 386/sx Ibm compatible,486 to pent/75 recommended,
  155.    and a Sound Blaster or compatible sound card. . 
  156.  
  157. B) Unload any T.S.R programs you might have running.
  158.  
  159. C) If you have been running different applications before running GroundFire! 
  160.    Reboot your computer and try again.
  161.  
  162. D) Make sure you are in TRUE Dos and not a Windows dos box.
  163.    Type "exit" at the Dos prompt if nothing happens your in true dos.

  166. *  Problem with installation.. *
  167.  
  168. If you ran the "install.bat" on the shareware disk and the game would not 
  169. install properly. You either need to change the bat file to fit your drives 
  170. or that it is a disk error, and the disk might be bad. We check all disks 
  171. before they leave T. I.S to make sure that they are alright, unfortunately 
  172. disks get damaged. Keep your disks, in a case, out of extreme cold/heat, and 
  173. away from magnets. Even your stereo speakers can wipe out a disk or CD.If you 
  174. suspect that you have a bad GroundFire disk. Please destroy it, or return it 
  175. to us for our inspection.

  180. You'll Receive ten very challenging rounds of play ,each with its own original 
  181. art work. Unlimited 90 day tech. support. We are also entitling customers of 
  182. GF discounts on future games. GF is a game you wont get through in a couple of 
  183. days. So, you'll also receive a cheat code that will help you,if you cant make 
  184. it all the way through to the ending.
